Best Indie Games Newsletter
By Clement • 26 May 2024
Hello Indie Game Fan!
Big news in the world of games media and coverage since IGN did just acquire the Gamer Network of sites, including GamesIndustry.biz, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and more, in addition to sites already in their portfolio including Humble Bundle and HowLongtoBeat.
Between Ziff Davis and Fandom (Gamespot, Giant Comb, Metacritic), that's pretty much all the big sites spoken for, which can be a troubling sign.
If you're this deep into video games to be subscribed to an indie games newsletter, I'm sure that you would have been a regular of at least one of these sites at a time (for me, Gamespot first, then Giant Bomb, with the occasional article from RPS) so it's troubling to see these legacy sites stripped for parts so to speak.
However, I think that the writing has been on the wall for a little while, since media companies are looking to use AI to pump out SEO relevant material like guides, and for the talent, from writers to hosts, once they gained enough of a reputation, they could easily spin off their own Patreon funded YouTube channel and go from there, so there's no incentive to stay for long as well.
That being said, do support your independent games media outlets, whether they be from the ashes of the above mentioned sites, or even Youtubers or Streamers that you have found their work to be helpful/entertaining.

Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds - Man, this brings me back, since it is one of the earlier titles that I covered on the channel, being a throwback PS2 style JRPG from an Indonesian developer, and at a whopping 90% discount, might be worth a try.
